We'd recommend the Kia Sorento. Your budget will get you a good example from around 2011. They're practical for the family and the diesel engines are pretty robust. Access to the rear seats is easy and the interior's pretty hardwearing. Alternatively, look at the Nissan Qashqai+2, although space is the rear is tight.
