Under the present rules (that will probably change in March 2019) you have a year to register it to your resident's address in France and to do that it will have to comply to French rules, including the Controle Technique test. Emissions rules are actually tougher in France. You need to get a 'Crit-Air' air quality certificate: www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/en and depending on how your car is rated it could be banned from numerous areas.
