It depends what sort of hybrid you mean. A self-charging hybrid is a direct replacement for a diesel in terms of mpg and is at its most advantageous if the car does a high proportion of a relatively high annual mileage in towns. A plug-in hybrid is more suitable for people who can plug it in at home and who do relatively short journeys most of the time but want the capability of driving unlimited distances as well.
If you cover no more than 100 miles per day and have easy access to a charging point at home or work, then an EV is ideal for you.
