Can I use 0W-16 oil in newer normal family cars?
Can I use 0W-16 oil in newer normal family cars? 0w-16 has been around for a few years and is Mobil, Motul, Pennzoil, Idemitsu and German make Ravenol all offer it. Ravenol's field tests were positive for mpg.

Yes you can use 0W oil. The number before the W (which is for winter) represents the oil viscosity/flow at low temperatures. So the lower the W number the better the oil's cold temperature/cold start performance. As for the second number, that refers to the viscosity at 100C, therefore the lower the number the thinner the oil (so a W10 is thinner that a W 30). Manufacturers normally recommend the best grade of oil for their engines
