How can I charge an electric car at home if I only have on street parking?
I'm thinking of getting an electric car but have a number of questions. How do I power the car at home and how do I go about getting a power supply? I only have on street parking and my front door is directly onto the footpath. Is this possible?

The unfortunate truth is that, with no off-road parking, an electric car probably isn't for you. To be able to charge at home you really need a garage, or at least a private driveway, where you can have a charger installed. There are a handful of London boroughs that are trialling lamp post chargers which will help in situations like yours, but these are still in their infancy. If you can't charge at home, running an electric car will be hard work as the public charging infrastructure is pretty poor. You might find a plug-in hybrid could work - these will run on electricity when charged (can you charge at work, perhaps?), but also have the back up of a conventional engine when required.
