Does black box insurance penalise you for driving at night?
I have a black box and have a score of 55 for night driving, the driving I have done between the hours of 2200 hrs and 0500 hrs (which are the time they ask not to drive between) are negligible. I have checked my account log and have only driven five times between these hours and the longest journey was two hours when setting off early for our holiday to Germany. I feel that the score is very harsh especially after I've had the box fitted for six months. Are they more severe with the night driving side of things?

Yes, they see you as being a higher risk driving at that time. Which is a bit daft, as how do you get experience if you do not. This issue with telematics is the lack of transparency in knowing how the insurers rating system is working. Ring the insurer up, and raise a complaint, asking them to clarify how the system is grading you and how does it penalise you as a result.
