I have a domestic and social car insurance policy. If I take fellow bowls members to away matches and accept a contribution towards petrol costs will I be covered by my insurance policy?

Yes, as long as it covers 'pleasure' then you are fine. If you are not working for hire and reward then taking contributions is fine.
