Maz’d been
This weekend I viewed a small Mazda car on display in a Guildford mall. When I expressed interest in the automatic version on show and on trading in my wife's old Ford Fiesta, I was advised that scrappage was not allowed as the automatic version is built in Japan and consequently the scrappage deal is not applicable. I had never heard before that the deal was only applicable to EU manufactured cars (though must admit that I can agree with this rule if it really applies). I must have missed something and wonder about the truth of this. The Mazda website says the scheme applies to all Mazda cars so maybe the salesperson got it wrong.

The automatic Mazda 2 is not an official import. For an independent, or even a Mazda dealer, to import one, the car would have to be sold in Japan or maybe Cyprus or Malta first, which would make it 2nd hand and therefore ineligible for the Scrappage scheme.
