Flat four Alfas traditionally suffered cold starting condensation problems. Though years ago a neighbour of mine used a rusting Alfasud as his station car and it lasted far longer than I thought it would. But minimum car is best. 1 mile there and 1 mile back will wreck it with unevaporated condensation, sump oil diluted with unburned fuel, etc. You definitely don't need a diesel unless it's a very old, low-tech diesel. By far the best for this sort of use would be something electric, if there was anything electric for £2k. Our lot charge £5 a day for station parking so anyone (healthy) living within 2 miles walks.
