The old bill

You referred in the past to people being able to reclaim money back from cheques that they have issued, even after the cheques have cleared. My mother-in-law is selling her car and wonders how she can best handle the situation if the purchaser wishes to pay by cheque. Can you give her any advice?

A UK banker's draft received during banking hours when the bank can be phoned to make sure it is genuine. Payment by Moneygram or by Western Union (expensive). Or cash, paid over during banking hours inside a bank where it can immediately be credited to the recipient’s bank account (whatever bank) without fear of being rescinded. Never take a bank draft from overseas as payment because these often deliberately contravene moneylaundering regulations and are rendered null by the bank up to a week after you think the money is safely in your account. Better to use www.sure-sell.info for a completely hassle free, secure sale.
