Might I just chime in on the debate of left foot braking in automatic cars. I started left foot braking shortly after buying my first automatic and, save when depressing the parking brake in my old Mercedes 300E-24, have never deviated. Anybody who has seen an automatic
‘creep’ in drive can see the logic behind it. I have explained to other drivers all over the world, most of which have understood what I’m on about and agree. I suggest that your correspondent, who helpfully quoted from the IAM. guide, has illustrated that blind faith in the dogma of others will get you, or someone else, into trouble. Besides, once you get used to left foot braking, it¹s actually entirely logical.

Many thanks. I think that’s pretty well said, except that Toyota might not have even needed its Toyotal Recall if auto drivers drove their automatics the way you and I do.
