A matter of a pinion
I have a new model Honda Jazz 1.4EX, registered January 2009, which has done 49k miles - mainly motorway driving. At the third service I mentioned a whirring noise when idling with the clutch pedal pressed and the dealership arranged for the clutch release bearing to be replaced. I think the noise disappeared for a while but it evidenced itself again and at the fourth service last week the dealership contacted Honda who said that some bearings in the gearbox needed to be replaced. I suspect that at this stage there will not be a large number of this model with similar mileage and am a little nervous as to what the future may hold. Will this be a recurrent problem if I keep the car that will continue to do about 35k miles a year?

Yes, this is becoming a known problem. It has been an issue on early Jazz, though did not normally manifest itself until the car was 5 or 6 years old. Happens much earlier on the new one. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/honda/jazz-2008/
