I am due to decide on buying a 2001 Rover 45 IXS 16V, which
looks good inside. It has a low mileage of 38,000. This is going to my only family car, and I will depend on it. I checked your website and others, and keep on getting a similar message that head gasket failure is common. But the mechanics told me that there should not be any problem with the engine and gasket. I do really hope to get honest advice form you about this model.

As long as you check the radiator expansion tank at least twice a week and don't drive the car if the level suddenly drops you will be okay. The leak occurs at the ‘O’ ring gaskets between the head and the heated inlet manifold. The engine has a very small coolant capacity so if you lose coolant, then head gasket and other overheating problems occur very quickly.
