The engine in my un-thrashed 2004 2.7 Boxster, 23k miles, FSH (Porsche main dealer), has just suffered a catastrophic "bag of spanners” breakdown, whilst doing nothing more exotic than driving to the shops. My local dealer says that it's not even worth trying to find out what has happened, because a new unit will inevitably be required. He approached Porsche to see if they would make some kind of goodwill gesture towards the cost of a replacement, and they have offered 85%. Is this fair?
