Wheel alignment ruined my tyres and now going to bore a hole in my pocket

I have a Vauxhall Astra(1.6 Petrol) and in September 2009 I had four new tyres fitted to it, along with wheel alignment, at KwikFit in Plymouth.

Now I have been told that two front tyres have gone bald on the inner side because of disturbed alignment. I am upset because I spent £360 on tyres and £30 on the alignment.

Please can you tell me how often the aligment should be checked?

Whats the best option for changing the tyres?

The tyre change was 18 months ago. Plenty of time to have knocked the wheels out of alignment against a kerb or through a pothole or over a speed hump. Fit some new front tyres (I'd go for Michelin Energy saver), have the suspension bushes checked for movement and the arms for damage. Then have the tracking reset by www.alignmycar.co.uk
