Cheap car for beginner

My 24 year old daughter needs to pass her driving test to enable her to progress her career. In order that she might get additional experience we are thinking of getting a small car for her to practice with. Our budget is extremely limited and we are looking to purchase a car for less than £1000.

Obviously there is a risk with buying such a car becasue it will inevitably need money spending on it. How can we minimise this risk by choosing wisely?

This type of car is proportionately the most expensive because every youngster wants a cheap car in a low insurance group. The consequence is that most low group £1,000 cars are rubbish. Best I can suggest is a Fiesta 1.25 (NOT a 1.3). Generally better, less rusty and cheaper to run than a Polo
