Transferring a private plate
I am purchasing a second hand car from a main dealer who tells me that the law has changed and he cannot transfer my own number plate off my current car, which is being part exchanged. Is this correct or is he simply not wanting to do it. What do you recommend I do?

Her just doesn't want to do it. So what you do is transfer your plate to a retention certificate, get a different reg for your p/x, p/x your p/ex., then transfer the reg from the retention certificate to the new car. Costs about £140. Click on: www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNu...6
