Using a diesel for low mileages
I bought a Mazda 2 in mid-2007 and have only done about 14,000 miles, including a lot of short runs from cold.
I am aware of the risk of clogging injectors and DPF etc, but it is difficult to do the required long runs to keep it clear.
Would it be beneficial to frequently drive it in 3rd or 2nd for a while, say 6miles every two weeks, running at about 3500 rpm, occasionaly touching 4500? Or what else could I do to sweep its chimneys?
I have had no trouble at all with it, and it handles very well, but from what I have described would you think it may have built up troubles, and hence would you recommend changing it soon? (to a petrol model).
Obviously I would prefer to keep it for several more years (I am 75).
What about dual mass flywheels and cam belt/chain considerations?

This must be old shape Mazda 2 because the current shape diesel did not arrive until 2008. Won't have a DPF. Yes, it would be beneficial to give it some revs occasionally. Better still, run it on a diesel packed with additives such as Shell V-Power diesel or BP Ultimate diesel. Not sure if it has a DMF. Later Fiesta diesels don't. Is a timing belt engine and best to replace that after 5 years or so.

You keep talking about the problems associated with DPFs. I have a 56-reg Volkswagen Passat TDI 140 and I only do 7000 miles a year. My daily commute is a round trip of 20 miles and I would rarely do anything...
