What should my granddaughter do with the registration book for her written-off car?
My granddaughter recently had an accident, not her fault, and her car was written off as a total loss. After eight weeks the third party insurers sent her a cheque in full settlement without even contacting her as to their view of its value. She had already received a cheque from DVLA for reimbursement of unused tax. She still has her registration book and no one has asked for it. What should she do?

Return it to the DVLA by special delivery stating that the car has been scrapped. Keep the post office receipt in a safe place and if she does not get an acknowledgement from the DVLA within 28 days, phone them. Then she has fulfilled her obligations and protected herself in case someone has put the written off car back on the road.
