Why has the delivery of my new Audi A5 been delayed by nearly three months?
I ordered and paid a deposit for an Audi A5 2.0 TDI to my specification on August 17 2010 and was assured that a delivery before the year's end would not be a problem. I have now been told today that the factory will be able to accept the order in week five of 2011 with an expected delivery in early March 2011.
Whilst not overly concerned at this news, I am surprised at the long lead-time. Do you know whether this is normal for Audi cars at present? Incidentally, I placed this order purely to avoid the anticipated VAT rise and was assured this condition would not be a problem.

It's because of the continued dire state of Sterling against the Euro. Manufacturers have so far not been able to increase UK prices to fully make up for this, so instead concentrate their efforts on more profitable markets such as the Eurozone, Russia and China, and only allocate production to RHD spasmodically.
