Vauxhall Vectra - It’s spring again
On the Vectra C forum the spring failure count is now 801. The latest post from ‘Kristian’ was a corker: “Both my rears and the front drivers failed. My front spring failure was the scariest as it went up in to the arch and then luckily flew out of the side with out bursting my tyre.” And yet VOSA continue to maintain this is not a problem as its fault database says there isn't a problem.

Had any European make or model been singled out in this way the results would probably be very similar. The fault is with the lousy springs fitted to European cars, the lousy way they are fitted, and the lousy way they are protected. Even faced with the same lousy roads festooned with potholes and speed humps, the failure rate of springs of Far Eastern cars is tiny compared with that of European cars.
