What could be causing this fuel supply problem with my Honda?
Our car was pre-registered but had only four miles on the clock when purchased. It had been left on the forecourt, presumably in the cold, but gave no immediate problem. The dealer has been very good as my mother-in-law became critically ill and my wife urgently needed to get to Sutton Coldfield, so the dealer lent her a car. Apparently, on the advice of Honda they drained the fuel tank. However the problem is still there. I am concerned because I had similar problems with a Volvo I bought years ago and these were never cured. Any ideas?

If it is not water in the petrol (which it could be) then it might be the fuel tank sender pump, its relay or the earth to the fuel tank sender pump or its relay. These are never pinpointed by diagnostics. All that shows up is an interruption in fuel supply.
