Can you make your correspondent MC of Stockport aware of the toll road situation in Ireland?
Further to the letter form MC of Stockport who received an invoice from e-Flow: All motoring visitors to the Republic of Ireland should be aware that most motorways and the Dublin Port and Limerick tunnels are tolled where one simply pays at a toll booth. However, in the case of the M50 motorway (the 'ring' road around Dublin that connects all the major routes), there is a 'barrierless' toll located between the M3 and M4 junctions that does not have any toll booths and requires drivers to pay the appropriate amount by 8pm of the following day.
Despite the lack of a physical barrier, there is any number of signs advising motorists of the situation and the tolls can be paid, either retrospectively or in advance, at any number of fuel stations, supermarkets and even small shops throughout the country. With the exception of the M50, all the other tolls have a barrier at the booth and all take cash, with some taking cards as well. Even if a booth is unmanned, you will not get through without payment so there is no way you are going to see letters in the mail for unpaid tolls at these points. However, be very aware that you will be chased for the non payment of the 'Barrierless' M50 toll wherever you live both within the EU and even the USA. Hoping your readers find this information of use.

Thanks for that explanation. Since I didn't have the time to drive, ferry and drive on the relevant roads I did not verify what the reader wrote. But you have made it crystal clear. I think he must have been so used to the way things used to be he could not see the signs.
