Speed awareness course
A month ago I visited East Sussex and picked up a £60 fine and three points for doing 36mph in a 30mph zone. Pretty much the first blemish on my licence in 35 years. Then again in East Sussex a camera flashed me exactly a month late. The prospect of a fine and more points isn't welcome.
But the suggestion of driving in third gear in 30mph zones most certainly is. It's great advice. It seems just right for my car, keeps me at the correct speed and, hopefully, will help me avoid further fines. In the meantime I, and my Subaru Forester, will keep clear of East Sussex. It doesn't welcome us like it used to.

Third for 30 is IAM advice. It uses more fuel, of course, but as well as reminding you of your speed and making the car more alert it helps keep it running more cleanly. I’m surprised you were not offered a speed awareness course for your first ‘offence’. Hugely preferable to points and the resultant insurance hike.
