The Range Rover Sport is based on the Discovery. It sits on a ladder rail chassis and is a huge profit earner for Land Rover. The Range Rover is a more sophisticated machine altogether with a monocoque body.

Two months ago I learned (from Australia) that the Discovery IV requires lifting of the body to replace either of the turbos on its 3.0V6 diesel if they become damaged by overheating in high ambient temperatures. The same may be true of the RR Sport. The older 2.7V6 diesel only had one turbo and in the hands of the Highways Agency was achieving 150,000 miles in two years leaving no time for breakdowns.
