Automatic decision

I have had VW Polo 1.4 automatics for the past 12 years, new each time and have been very happy with them. Mainly I commute to work in and out of central London, with longer distances (up to 300 miles) at weekends. Annual mileage about 10,000. It is time to trade in for another new replacement but I have now tried the VW Golf 1.4 Auto Match. About £5k more but a wonderful car, smooth and quiet, which is very important to me. The lack of colour choices is depressing (interior- any colour so long as its black). Given an impending hike of £5,000, can you suggest other similar cars that I should be considering, please? Fuel economy and sportiness are lesser considerations that quiet and comfortable.
