The stop start economy
My husband drives an Audi A1 automatic, which has a stop/start system. The engine will automatically cut out when the vehicle stops, and when you take your foot off the brake, the car will start again. As this stop/start will come into use many times on a journey, my query is will this have an adverse effect on the starter motor and battery over a period of time

These systems have been around in numbers for about 4 years now. When they fail, the stop start function tends to fail. I have never heard of the starter motor, pinion or starter ring failing. The systems protect the batteries and simply do not work if the battery is low.
