In or out?

My new Ford S-Max manual (p155) recommends using petrol "without additives or other engine treatments". Also supplied with the car is a leaflet saying "Ford recommends BP because BP fuels include additives which can help reduce corrosion and maintain performance". Somewhat contradictory advice then?

Okay, in simple language: Ford advises you not to add additives to your fuel because they might not be right and the quantity might not be right. But Ford recommends a fuel that already has the right additives in it in the right quantities.
