Captain Tugwell
I want to buy a used car capable of towing a four-berth caravan. Being a novice to this art, I would appreciate your advice. The car will have to cope with everyday use as well as extended periods of towing. I have been offered a four-year old Audi A6 Quattro diesel estate (45,000 miles) for £16,500.
I know that this is at the luxury end of the market but I feel like a bit of luxury at my age. Any comments as to the suitability (or otherwise) of this car would be greatly appreciated, or do you have any better ideas? I should add that I do not want a full blown off road vehicle.

With four-wheel drive, a decent 3.0V6 diesel engine and reasonable weight, an A6 3.0 quattro Avant should be an excellent tower.
