Earth quake
I have received notice of proposed traffic calming measures from the council. They wish to put 13 sets of speed cushions in what is currently a 30mph zone. I have taken note of your opinion of these humps in the road and seek your advice on what arguments may prevail against this abomination. They are proposed on Cotswold Lane, an access road to several small housing developments between the A19 slip road North Road. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

The best argument is that the percussion from vehicles riding over the 'cushions' sends shock waves into the sub structure of the road, leading the road to crumble, damaging drains, etc., beneath the road, and causing cracks in adjacent buildings. A shop on Berkhamsted High Street adjacent to a 'speed table' actually collapsed.
