GREAT ESPECTATIONS

My 2005 V/W Golf Plus has been serviced fully by my local VAG garage and was in for service + MOT 3 weeks ago, however last week the ESP light came on and diagnostics showed the ABS failure. I was quoted £450 to have the fault rectified by use of a kit now supplied by VW. and when I questioned this I was then told that as the car was 2 weeks over the extended V/W warranty of 72 months for the ABS fault then they would pay 2/3 of the cost and I should pay the remaining £150. In your opinion, is V/W liable for the whole cost and is it worth me pursuing them for the £150 it has cost me for an obvious fault of their making?

That is the best deal I have heard of over this problem. Two years ago VW was charging owners of cars like yours £1,700 for a complete new ABS/ESP module despite the availability of repair kits. Yes, VW and its dealers were profiting out of selling a substandard component in the first place. They have now been brought to heel, presumably by threats from VOSA. Anyone needing this repair can now get one from www.sinspeed.co.uk for £225, plus removal and refitting of the ABS/ESP module.
