Engine management light comes on

I have a 03 Leon 1.4 petrol. Yesterday the engine warning light (Diagnosis/warning of excess pollution) came on. All the time, not flashing.

There also seems to be a lack of power and the engine rumbles more that it does normally. I was told that this might be down to dirty fuel. The tank was a 1/4 full so I filled it up with the most expensive unleaded from Shell.

Could this be the reason and do I need to do anything else? Someone said take the fuel filter out and clean it but I don't know where the fuel filter is, what it looks like or how to clean it!

Another person has said drive it around for an hour in 3rd gear at 4000 revs to burn off any 'deposits'.

Be a dirty oxygen sensor. There is a chance that the detergents in Shell V-Power will clean up the fuel system and sensors for you.
