Which tyres for an MX5?

I used to have Avon tyres on my MX-5 and I am currently arguing with my garage who, when I thought they were directly replacing, actually put Federal tyres on there, which I wasn't happy with.

They are now offering to replace the tyres with something of my choice - told me Avon not available, could have Maxxis. Is there any brand you'd suggest - or would I be better pushing for a more recognised brand?
