Tyre noise on Alfa Giulietta

I have just swapped an Alfa Giullietta MultAir on 18 inch wheels (Pirelli P Zero 225/40) for a 140 jtdm on 17-inch wheels (Bridgestone Turanza ER300 225/45) and am shocked that the tyre noise on the new car is far worse than on the old one. Any suggestions or advice?

The Giulietta is transformed on 16-inch wheels with 205/55 R16s. On the car I drove they were Continentals.
