Gearchange is stiff when it's hot

When the engine is cold the gear selection seems perfect. But when I have been in slow moving traffic for a while I cannot engage the lower gears and have to pull over to side of road till it cools down.

Sometimes the clutch cable runs too close to the hot exhaust manifold and sticks.
