Stop/start and flat batteries

I am about to purchase a new BMW 1 Series and have been told of a well known problem with all stop start models - that the electrics (battery/alternator) are not able keep the battery charged if other electrical systems are in use at the same time e.g. headlights, climate control, wipers etc. The same problem also arises if short journeys are the norm. Can you tell me if this problem has been addressed?

It's not a problem. It's a consequence of the Efficient Dynamics system. If you will not regularly be travelling distances in the car that will recharge the battery then don't buy a car with this system.
