Driving over the Alps - how to prepare?

My car is in VGC but which mechanical/coolant/electricals should I have checked prior to crossing the Alps? The brakes are my number one task. Any advice will be most welcome.

Cooling system and turbo oil delivery system are the most critical. Remember that on a steep ascent the turbo will get extremely hot, so never switch off the engine until you have idled it for a couple of minutes to allow the engine oil passing through the turbo bearing to cool the turbo while it spools down. If you don't, the oil in the turbo bearing and the oil delivery pipe could carbonise.
