Declaring past 'driver awareness' course to insurers?
Am I required to declare a speeding conviction when I renew my car insurance when I accepted the "Drive Awareness" course incurring no points?

Not unless your insurer specifically asks you to. If your insurer does ask you, find another insurer because this is totally unacceptable.
