ABS light comes on intermittently on a Focus
I am having a problem with my ABS light on my 2003 Focus.
It comes on sometimes and off sometimes. Some days it is on throughout the whole journey.
I don't want to pay a local garage just yet. I wanted to see if you can tell me ways of checking it myself before I let the garage charge me a ridiculous price!
I have checked the fuses in both the fuse boxes. The one in the bonnet and the one in the glove-box. The fuse all seem fine - no cracks or rust.
Where are the ABS sensors kept on the vehicle? It might be worth me checking if it has come loose or has developed rust. I heard there are sensors on your wheel arches I have not been able to find such.
Also is there an ABS component or piece in the bonnet itself which might be worth checking because, like I said, round where I live it is very expensive to check diagnostics, which I have done on the car in a garage and apparently there are no fault codes which they can be able to tell me, the engineer looked more confused than I was?!

Well you have a sensor on each wheel hub.
Have you had any work done on the wheels/brakes etc recently??
Check the brake fluid level also check fuses 36,41,46,61.
Any one of the sensors may be at fault,so worth doing a visual check of each one.
There is also a known problem on this model in that the dash panel can develope a fault, which causes the abs light to come on.
Some people have tried removing the dash ,cleaning /spraying it with electrical cleaner, which has worked, whilst others have removed and sent it away to be checked over.
