All season tyre speed ratings
My 2 year old Yeti TDi 140 Elegance 4x4 needs a set of 4 tyres. It's still running on the original Dunlop SP 01 225/50x17 94W factory fitted tyres. I wish to fit Goodyear Vector 4 Season for all year running as they are highly regarded for summer and winter use. They are only available up to V rated and Skoda Technical tell me they cannot approve the change as the car was type approved on W rated tyres.
My insurers (LV) tell me they will accept any suitable tyres, but will not tell me who they accept as being qualified to regard them as suitable. Skoda Technical have told me that H rated winter tyres are acceptable but whilst the handbook (page 220) agrees that all season tyres are acceptable, it makes no mention of speed ratings. Surely V rated (149mph) are suitable for a diesel Yeti? I live in a rural area with hills on all sides. Should I stop worrying and just fit another set of summer Dunlop SP 01 tyres or is there any way to improve the winter handling of this superb car with all season tyres?
