In car phone/radio crosstalk on a Vlkswagen Up!

Just bought an Up! Black ve-door and whilst I can hear incoming phonecalls via the radio OK, the caller is getting what appears to be a lot of the radio programme which had been apparently muted.

Is this a common fault and is there a cure ?
