Protecting steel wheels in winter

I have bought 4 new manufacturer steel wheels on which I will fit winter tyres. I will not use plastic wheel trims. Do I need to have the wheels painted again - the paint finish they came in seems very thin and I want these wheels to remain good looking for several years. Is there a special paint for this job?

I did this last year and the standard black FIAT paint on the steel wheels held up. I guess you could paint them with a few more coats and obviously the time to do that is now, before you put the tyres on. Check for special wheel paint because it has to withstand high temperatures from the brakes. Sperex VHT is probably appropriate.
