Unfit for sale should I get a refund or ask for a repair?

I have just purchased a Range rover x reg after seeing the car on a 4x4 garage forecourt, there was also an add on auto trader with the car on the forecourt in front of the sign for the 4x4 specialist. when i brought the vehicle the salesman told me it was his own car and this was a private sale, as it turned out the documents were in his fathers name, this he told me was for his insurance purposes.

Drove the car home 20 miles max, next day the car failed to start, AA recovered the vehicle to a land rover specialist who found the problem, water had corroded the electrics under the driverseat, £350.fix.

Collected the car, next drive was a 4 hour motorway journey, car was checked before leaving, all things seemed fine, the car over heated and lost all its water, i stopped and the car was eventually recovered by the AA back to my home, the car has a posable cracked head or gasket repair.

This car has only made two journeys, when i contacted the salesman who sold the car to me, he said all was fine when you left and that a private sale meant i had no rights to a refund or for him to fix any problems.

Is this true as he did tell me it was private, but he is a car salesman and it was on his uncles garage forecourt.

I think that a judge would disagree with this trader and would find in your favour, so take the matter to court. It has to be below the £5,000 small claims limit.
