Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec - Motorway cruising speed
My Ford Focus 1.8 petrol Zetec 2010 has done 20,000 miles and will take us to the French Alps in December. If we cruise on the French motorways at 85 mph the engine will be reving at approx 3900 in top gear.
The car drives well, but feels as though it needs a higher gear for motorways. Would it be okay to drive the car at about 3900 revs continuously for several hours or is this asking too much of the vehicle.

It will be okay, but will drink fuel. Why not drive at 70mph? I do. Might cost an extra hour's time, but the fuel saving will be considerable.
