Blowing front exhaust - then goes quiet when it warm

I've had a problem for months if not more. When cold, the exhaust blows loud at front and it's rattly. It seems to go after one minute when warm - been worse since the weather turned cold.

I can't tell what it is - it does smell, so I guess it's a worsening blow somewhere at front. But thought rattling was weird unless it is catalytic converter? It idles high, too, then drops - and this coincides with the blowing.

Rather difficult to identify from here. It may be best to firstly get the exhaust system checked out (could just get someone like Kwik Fit) to have a look and see what is wrong.

As for the tapping noise if this goes away after a minute or so then it is most likely the hydraulic tappets and given the age, would be normal. If the noise stays then it may be that they are worn and may need replacing/cleaning.
