Problems starting a Rover 25

I have a Rover 25 2001 model. Sometimes when I try to start the engine it wont turn over, as if the starter is jammed. It starts with a bump then it starts normally for a bit, then it will go wrong again.

A few teeth chipped off the starter ring on the flywheel.
