What to do with an old Mazda6

My son owns a 2005 diesel Mazda 6. We paid £1000 for a clutch and flywheel repair 6 months ago and now the engine has seized up and he is talking about paying another £1000 for a new engine as 'what else can go wrong with it? In its current state it is only worth scrap value'. Is he right?

Not quite scrap value, but it's 7 years old so worth buttons without a working engine.
