Volvo V70 dashboard - faulty main beam light

I own a 2001 Volvo V70 2.4. The headlight main beam light works intermittently; my Volvo Garage has inspected it and has suggested a full instrument binnacle replacement at over £600. They said that a unit from a scrap dealer would not be compatible due to unique software per vehicle. Do you know of a cheaper solution?
