BMW technology capability lags behind car thieves
After having a 2008 58 registered BMW 120d stolen the police recovered the car undamaged within 48 hours (actually it was valeted for sale) but it was recovered without the original tax disc and with two of three VIN plates changed. It was no problem to rectify these changes and our local dealer, North Oxford Garage BMW, has been very helpful.
One issue is causing problems however. The odometer has been wound back shedding around 30k miles. This makes the service history, MoTs etc inconsistent with the mileage shown on the odometer.
Despite the best efforts of our dealer and a direct approach by ourselves to BMW UK we cannot find a way to restore the correct higher mileage. You tube is full of mileage correction videos (known as odometer rollback) and there are a number of mileage correction websites.
Is it really possible that the car thieves have more high technology equipment than BMW? We want to use a reputable firm, rectify the problem, and declare the correct mileage for future sale.
