Four-door sporty car with female Appeal
I would like to surprise my wife with a new car. She currently drives an ageing VW Polo. Something sport with four- or five-doors is essential as we have two young kids. I have £5000 to spend. Something with good kerb appeal is essential - Saab 9-3 or Audi A4 convertibles spring to mind.

Convertibles don't have 4 or 5 doors. Just 2. Saab 9-3 or Audi A4 convertibles are also quite expensive to insure. I'd be thinking along the lines of a Mazda 2 1.3TS2. Huge fun to drive, very economical, and you'll get one for £5k.
